Southwest Louisiana is the gateway to one of nature's last frontiers often referred to as "Sportsman's Paradise". Acres of land and water that are virtually untouched by mankind are rich with wildlife. Nesteled within this frontier is a thriving community where approximately 150,000 people reside along with local businesses and industry. This water based community is home to Captain Ben Garber and Contraband Charter Service, LLC. Capt. Ben has over 30 years of experience cruising the waters of the Calcasieu River in Southwest Louisiana. Join Capt. Ben and his crew for an unforgetable adventure on the lakes, rivers and bayous of Southwest Louisiana.
The Calcasieu River Estuary contains many Bayous, Bays and Lakes as well as many miles of navigable waterways. Lake Charles is located approximately 35 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico on the Calcasieu River. The Lake Charles area has over 75 festivals annually so it is known as the Festival Capital of Louisiana. The area is also home to many petrochemical industries, gaming casinos, the Port of Lake Charles and McNeese State University.
Almost three centuries ago, a notorious and ruthless pirate named "Jean Lafitte" and his band of buccaneers were fleeing enemy ships and heading west to Galveston. Legend has it that Lafitte & his band of buccaneers would hide out along the waterways in Lake Charles hiding their treasures (silver & gold) in his favorite hideaway which is now named Contraband Bayou.
Contraband Charters offers a variety of ways to explore these waters and experience the rich culture and vast natural resources of the region. Cruise aboard the M/V Contraband on a waterfront tour of homes along the shores of Lake Charles and Prien Lake and enjoy a beautiful sunset with your friends and family.
